The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), which repeals Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 addresses the challenges faced by the judiciary in the criminal justice system. This new law prescribes the timelines for inquiry, investigation and trial and formal adoption of audio-visual and electronic means to undertake various processes for introducing a more efficient and technologically aligned regime for administration of criminal justice. The book prescribes the procedure which needs to be followed in the criminal justice delivery system. It exhaustively covers all the aspects till Chapter XVII (Commencement of Proceedings before Magistrate) for filing the complaint in a clear, precise and elaborative manner.

This book has section wise arrangement of the subject matter of criminal procedure developing insights into the subject covering the latest and important cases of Supreme Court and High Courts bringing the subject up to date. Judicial decisions under the provisions of Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 have been cited along with the new provisions of BNSS in the brackets. Reference to such provisions would be useful in understanding as to how the provisions of BNSS are likely to be interpreted by the courts.

The amendments brought by BNSS have been dealt separately in the end of every chapter providing a comprehensive and comparative view. The different topics with all its ramifications have been supported by flow charts so as to make the complex concepts comprehensible to the students of law.
