GST - Issues, Controversies & Possible Solutions
- Year of Publication: 2020
- ISBN: 0
Module Duration:
220 minutes (comprising of 3 episodes)
Module Background:
As we enter the fourth year of GST, whether it can be said that its implementation/introduction has been able to address the twin issues i.e. (i) 'Good & Simple tax' and (ii) “One Nation, One Tax”? The answer undisputedly is a resounding ‘NO’!
The journey of GST so far has been nothing less than a roller coaster ride with complexities embedded in every aspect ranging from implementation, compliance to interpreting GST law. In fact, it would not be out of the place to mention here that GST has unsettled historic issues which were kind of settled under the erstwhile Indirect Tax regime. Not only the disputes on vexed issues are multiplying, but the conflicting decisions of AARs on various issues has also left the taxpayers in a lurch forcing them to knock the doors of the judiciary which has led to a flood of litigations. And this does not seem to end/settle anytime soon. While the GST Council has been proactive and alive to industry concerns, yet, there are still grey areas which need to be addressed.
