Webinar Background -

The GST landscape has been bustling with pivotal changes, shaping the terrain for businesses and taxpayers. Some of these changes include Madras HC's clarification in a writ petition by a works contractor, pertaining to TDS under the erstwhile VAT regime [TS(DB)-GST-HC(MAD)-2024-596]. In another case, Patna HC  emphasized that interest liability, upon furnishing delayed returns, is automatic under the provisions of Section 50(1) [TS(DB)-GST-HC(PAT)-2024-527]. Further, Kerala HC's ruling regarding the GST rate applicable to 'Classic Malabar Parota' and 'Whole Wheat Malabar Parota', held that these products attract a GST rate of 5% and not 18%, contrary to the classification settled by the AAR & AAAR. The Court's decision is grounded in the interpretation that these products are 'akin/similar' to those mentioned under Chapter Heading 1905 [TS(DB)-GST-HC(KER)-2024-494].

As the government strives to develop the law in order to make it litigation-free, it becomes necessary for professionals to stay updated and aligned with all the changes occurring in the GST world. To cope up with these unending changes can be difficult, but as a well-known adage goes “any change even the change for the better is accompanied by discomfort” and the only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it and join the dance...!
