About Course:

Episode Duration:
90 minutes

Episode Background:
The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (“CPA”) came into force from July 2020, thereby replacing the three-decade-old Consumer Protection Act, 1986. The new CPA strengthens the legal framework, so as to further the avowed objective of safeguarding consumer rights. Furthermore, the new CPA adopts global standards in regulating consumer interest(s) by introducing new concepts such as “product liability”, “unfair contracts”, “misleading advertisements”, “E-commerce guidelines”, thereby asserting businesses to be more responsible and accountable in the conduct of their operations (both from a product and customer service perspective).

What shall the episode cover?
Against this backdrop, Taxsutra and ELP present an episode on “New Consumer Protection Laws – Need for Vigilant Business Practices”. In this episode, Mr Nishant Shah (Senior Partner, ELP) has thrown light on the key new concepts introduced and the widening of old concepts in the CPA which have far-reaching ramifications, thereby calling upon vigilant business practices. Drawing from his experience in dealing with various consumer-centric issues, Mr Shah has also delved into the practical application of the new CPA provisions, pain points typically faced by the businesses and mitigation steps to be adopted for due compliance of the CPA.
